Hospital Hospitality House of Southwest Michigan (HHH) has a rich history dating back several decades. Founded with a simple yet profound mission, this organization has been a beacon of hope and support for the region's individuals and families facing medical crises.

The origins of HHH can be traced back to the early 1980s when a group of compassionate individuals recognized a pressing need in their community. Many families were forced to travel long distances to receive medical treatment at Kalamazoo and Southwest Michigan hospitals. This travel placed a tremendous emotional and financial burden on these families, who were already dealing with the stress of medical emergencies.

In response to this need, a group of dedicated volunteers and community leaders came together to establish the Hospital Hospitality House in 1985. Their vision was to provide a home away from home for patients and their families during their time of medical crisis. This vision gave birth to the original HHH location on South Street in downtown Kalamazoo, which offered a welcoming and comfortable place to stay near the hospitals.

Over the years, HHH expanded its services and facilities to accommodate more families. With strong community support and generous donations, the South Street house was sold, and two new houses were built from 2017 to 2019, which doubled the number of guest rooms available to meet growing needs.

The core mission of HHH has always been to provide a supportive and nurturing environment for families facing medical challenges. No-cost lodging, meals, transportation, and emotional support are provided to patients and their loved ones, allowing them to focus on healing and recovery without the added burden of finding accommodations or worrying about expenses.

Throughout its history, HHH has remained steadfast in its commitment to the community. Countless families have found solace and support within the walls of these hospitality houses during their most challenging moments. The organization's dedicated staff and volunteers work tirelessly to ensure that everyone who enters their doors feels cared for and valued.

With mission-driven energy, Hospital Hospitality House of Southwest Michigan has continued to adapt and expand its services to meet the community's evolving needs. The organization’s enduring legacy is a testament to the power of compassion, community, and the belief that no one should face their journey alone in times of medical crisis.
